The Banker Ladies Council is a grassroots organization dedicated to honouring and advancing the legacy of Rotating Savings and Credit Associations (ROSCAs)—a community-based model of saving and lending practiced across the African, Caribbean, and broader Black diaspora for generations.
These informal financial systems, built on trust, reciprocity, and shared responsibility, have quietly empowered women and men to purchase homes, fund education, launch businesses, and support families—often outside of formal banking institutions. And yet, the critical role ROSCAs play in our economy has gone unrecognized and unsupported.
We’re here to change that.
Who We Are
We are educators, advocates, and community builders.
We are mothers, business owners, organizers, and everyday people who understand the power of collective wealth.
We are the stewards of a financial tradition that has sustained our communities for centuries.
ROTATING SAVINGS & CREDIT ASSOCIATION
What We Do
Through education, training, advocacy, and national organizing, we are working to:
*Demystify and legitimize ROSCAs as a credible and effective financial tool
* Support and protect ROSCA users through education and policy advocacy
* Build a connected membership base of ROSCA practitioners across Canada
Our newest initiative, The ROSCA Network, is created to support the growing number of individuals and groups practicing ROSCAs today. Through this network, we aim to formalize what our communities have long done informally—build wealth, one circle at a time.
Why It Matters
When traditional financial systems have failed to serve us, we have turned to each other. ROSCAs are a powerful expression of community care and economic self-determination. By giving these systems the recognition and resources they deserve, we are not just preserving tradition—we are building a new financial future rooted in equity, trust, and collective power.
We know that when we come together, we all rise.
